Blog Writing

Blog Examples

At Datacentreplus part of my responsibilities is writing all the blogs for posting on the website and that social media platforms.

Here is a link to the blog section on the Datacentreplus website where you can see the blogs I have written.

Analysis

At Datacentreplus a lot of the blogs are technical blogs covering a topical point or providing advice on a technical subject.

For example the aim of this blog was to give a step by step guide of what to do in the case of a successful cyber attack.

The key to this blog was research.

I started by gathering as much information as possible from multiple sources and then extracting this into a word document.

From here I transcribed all the information into a blog format starting with an intro, stating what the blog was about and why the reader should read on.

Then I went through the advised steps being careful not to use definitive language as with informative blogs sometimes the information can be subjective so to avoid any conflicting opinions this is a good approach

I then finished the blog with a conclusion and a call to action linking back to our services page.

This blog was another technical blog so it was important to conduct as much research as possible beforehand to ensure the information given was correct.

I again ensured to avoid using definitive language due to the subjective nature of the blog for example rather than saying “you should do this” I put “We recommend you do this”.

The brief for this blog was to advertise our remote working package and emphasize the importance of security when working remotely.

The other types of blogs I write for Datacentreplus are business updates/good news articles.

This differs from the technical blogs as they usually have a more causal and personable tone of voice. This is to show the reader that we care about the topic of the blog and want to speak to them on their level.

The brief for this blog was to share our recent charity work but to avoid it coming across as disingenuous.

I did this by starting the blog with a little bit about our charity work and why we do it, I then went onto the charity and talked about how other people can get involved.

I ended the blog with a small paragraph talking about how we love to get involved with charitable projects and to get in touch if there’s anything we can help support.

It’s important in these types of blogs to do little to no self promotion as this can come across as using the charity for your own benefit.

Conclusion

With any type of blog my usual approach is to study the brief to ensure I know exactly what it required.

I then will research the topic as much as I can to ensure the all the information is correct and useful to the reader.

From here I will plan out the structure of the blog and begin forming the blog, considering the desired tone of voice throughout to ensure it is consistent.

I then end the blog with the topical call to actions and contact details to give the reader a push to engage with us.
